 CATHAY PACIFIC 30 March 2010 – Cathay Pacific Airways (CX) announced on Friday that it will start operating to Moscow on July 13 with three flights a week departing Hong Kong every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, subject to government approval. The Moscow service will be the second new destination to be launched by the airline this year and will become the 48th online passenger destination in its global network. CX said the new four-times-weekly service to Milan, which launches on March 28, has already had a positive reception from the market. CX said its current code-share arrangement Aeroflot on the Russian carrier’s flights between Hong Kong and Moscow will cease on March 28. Alternative arrangements for Cathay Pacific ticket holders have already been made. In addition to the launch of more new destinations, Cathay Pacific will strengthen its services to three more destinations - Paris, Singapore and Bali – in addition to the service enhancements to Toronto, Los Angeles, Jeddah and Seoul already announced. Three flights a week will be added to the Paris service for July and August; four flights a week will be added to Singapore in June and July, before becoming a daily service from August; and four weekly flights will be added to Bali in July and August.
CONTINENTAL 31 March 2010 - Continental Airlines is re-launching its non-stop service to Guam from Hong Kong, beginning this Friday, April 2. The twice-weekly direct flight will depart from Hong Kong every Monday and Friday. The non-stop service is also timed to provide travellers departing Hong Kong with convenient flight connections at Guam Airport to Honolulu, Hawaii. Connecting services on this route to and from Guam via Manila or Tokyo are also available for the rest of the week. Vacation packages for four days two nights or five days three nights including flight tickets and hotel accommodation are available from HK$3,999 (US$515).
AIR CANADA 30 March 2010 – Air Canada (AC) inaugurated on Saturday its first non-stop flight between Calgary and Tokyo, the only direct link between Alberta, Canada and Asia. In addition to offering efficient connections at Narita to points throughout Asia with Air Canada's Star Alliance partners, ANA, Asiana, THAI and United Airlines, AC's Calgary-Japan flights are timed to offer convenient connections to and from communities across Alberta and Western Canada served by AC. The new Calgary-Tokyo service complements AC’s daily non-stop flights to Tokyo from both Vancouver and Toronto. This summer, the carrier offers up to 17 flights each week from Canada to Tokyo's Narita International Airport.
SHENZHEN AIRLINES 30 March 2010 - The new Xi’an-Kuala Lumpur route, which began on Monday, is expected to help increase tourist arrivals from the northwest of China to the Malaysian capital. There are 125 weekly direct flights from China to Malaysia to date, providing 25,154 seats. The route utilises Airbus A-320 type of aircraft. Shenzhen Airlines takes off from Xi’an at 6.00 pm and lands in Kuala Lumpur at 1.30 am after a stopover at Shenzhen. On the return leg, Shenzhen Airlines leaves Kuala Lumpur at 2.30 am and reaches Xi’an at 11.10 am.
CHINA AIRLINES 30 March 2010 – In response to growing market demand, and to provide more comfortable flights, China Airlines (CAL) and its subsidiary, Mandarin Airlines, plan to fly larger Airbus A330-300 aircraft between Taoyuan International Airport and Xian, Shenyang, Changsha and Zhengzhou, in Mainland China. CAL and Mandarin Airlines will switch from B737-800 aircraft to A330-300 on flights from Taoyuan to the four cities, a move that will better serve the rising demand for cross-strait travel. Since regular cross-strait flights began in 2009, the average passenger load factor has risen gradually, owing in part to the global economic recovery.
JAPAN AIRLINES, BRITISH AIRWAYS 30 March 2010 –Japan Airlines (JAL) and British Airways (BA), both oneworld members, have reached an agreement to expand their code-share partnership. Beginning March 28, JAL will code-share with BA on nine new routes and from April 28, four new routes, all in the European region. Including current code-share flights within the United Kingdom and within Europe, the total number of code-share flights between the two airlines will be 23, broadening JAL’s Europe network to cover 36 cities with 54 routes. Reservations and ticket sales begin on the respective commencement dates of the new code-share flights.
AIR CHINA 21 March 2010 – Air China is set to launch its first non-stop flight between Beijing and Manila on March 29. Flights to Manila will depart from Beijing Capital Airport at 8:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and arrive at 12:55 AM the next day. Flights to Beijing from Manila will depart at 06:30 AM local time on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday and arrive at Beijing at 11:10 AM. A Boeing 738 will be deployed for all flights on the Beijing-Manila route.
CHINA SOUTHERN 21 March 2010 - China Southern Airlines is expanding its Premium Economy Class service to all its domestic routes using Boeing 777, 737 and Airbus 319, 320, 321 and 330-200/300 series aircraft. From March 28, China Southern customers will be able to book and purchase their seats in Premium Economy Class on routes from Guangzhou and Shenzhen to Beijing and Shanghai, at the same cost of the full-fare economy ticket. The new service will be gradually phased in on all domestic routes. By July, the airline expects to have 7,000 Premium Economy seats available on nearly 300 aircraft. The Premium Economy Class offers customers a more comfortable seat and upgraded cabin services.
